The garden conference begins with a cooking demonstration featuring renowned chef David Vargas of Vida Cantina, Ore Nells and Dos Amigos fame! David will share his story of the birth of Vida Tortilla and the partnership he has developed with Tuckaway Farm, all while teaching us the tricks of making your own tortillas with locally grown corn.

The demonstration will be followed by a potluck lunch (where we will sample the morning’s creations) from 11:30 – 12:30. Please bring a dish to share as well as your own dining kit (plate, cup, utensils) in order to reduce waste.

Afternoon workshops run from 12:30 – 4:00. Local garden-related organizations will be tabling, offering demonstrations and giving away seeds.

This year’s workshops will include:

  • Kitchen Gardens: Essential Culinary and Medicinal Herbs with Karen Spillane
  • Planning your Vegetable Garden for Flavor and Yield with Erik Wochholz
  • Seed saving and giveaways with Piscataqua Seed Project
  • More activities (coming soon…)

Why Seed to Soil? The cycle of life and of our food begins with a seed. As a plant grows, matures and dies, it returns to the soil as organic matter that nourishes the seeds of the next generation. In parallel, experienced gardeners nourish the younger generations of growers and gardeners. This cycle of life is what we wish to promote at our conference.

This year’s event is hosted at Mainspring Center, a low-profit, mission-driven organization, striving to create access to personal and professional development through life-long learning. We think it is a perfect space for Seed to Soil!
