Summer’s just around the corner and local farmers are planting like crazy this time of year. Luckily, there are lots of heirloom seeds going into the ground in preparation for our third annual, on-farm barbeque extravaganza, aka Farm-a-Q! We have wild foraged foods, heritage breed chickens, ducks, pigs and beef, fish from our waters, fresh seasonal berries, and the first heirloom veggies of summer, all in the hands of our region’s most talented chefs – so what are you waiting for, it’s time to get your tickets!
This year we are hosted by one of the oldest continuously farmed properties in the country, Emery Farm. Their farm stand on Route 4 is well known to locals and visitors, selling a variety of produce, meats and other local products. They are well known for their berry -picking and fall hay rides. Cattle from Miles Smith Farm are now grazing on the property and at Farm-a-Q we’ll get a tour of the “back 40” that you don’t see from the road. The day will feature tastings, demonstrations, kids activities, hay rides and best of all, the amazing locally grown, picnic-style meal prepared by our even more amazing local chefs!
This year we look forward to the culinary creations of our old favorites and some new comers as well. Here’s a short list of who will be grillin’ and baking for you on the 29th. This year’s participating restaurants include another incredible line up:
Anju, Black Trumpet Bistro, Black Birch, Beach Pea Baking Company, Buttermilk Baking Company, Cava, Demeter’s, The District, Joinery, Juice Burger, The Kitchen on Islington, La Vida Cantina, Martingale Wharf, Moxy, When Pigs Fly, and White Heron Tea Company
So mark your calendars and get ready for this great summer event! Experience the delicious transformation of locally grown food through the hands of culinary artists and savor the tastes of summer!
Farm-a-Q runs from 12:00 – 4:00 pm with food served between 1:00 – 3:00. Enjoy workshops, live music and activities all afternoon.
Tickets are $25 or $20 for Slow Food members. Youth pay $15 (ages 13 – 20) and children under 12 are $5 (children under 3 are free).
